This month, we caught up with our newest team member, Skye Stern, and would love to share what we learned with you about how she can help teens and young adults looking help on their mental health journey. Enjoy!
What inspired you to pursue a career as a therapist?
“Throughout my life, I have had a great deal of compassion/empathy for others and have the natural instinct or desire to help people. I have always been interested in Psychology, and I have also enjoyed being around and caring for children. So, when it was time to narrow down career options, I merged the two together and pursued Child and Adolescent Therapy! I have been practicing for over 18 years now! I am very passionate about my work; it is such a significant part of who I am! It is very rewarding, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!”
What is your favorite thing about being a therapist?
“What I love most about being a therapist is just being there for my clients as they try to navigate the ups and downs of life. I love making connections and building trust/rapport. I love helping them see their strengths and abilities. I love seeing the progress and transformations.”
What makes you unique as a therapist?
“What makes me unique is my ability to connect with my clients. I believe that connection is the most important aspect of therapy and is necessary for it to be beneficial to the client. I specialize in Child and Adolescent Therapy, but mostly work with older children, teens, and young adults. I am particularly effective with young girls who are struggling with a variety of issues, including Depression and Anxiety. They seem to respond well to my personality/vibe and therapeutic approach!”
How would you describe your therapeutic approach?
“My approach is client-centered, supportive, and strength-based. Cognitive therapy techniques are also used very frequently with my clients!”
What is your favorite quote?
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world” -Mahatma Gandhi
“I am very excited to be part of the WPS team, and I look forward to hearing from you!”
